Are you familiar with the computer slang "WYSIWYG." It stands for "What You See Is What You Get."

• Believing that "what you see is what you get."

Making hasty long-term relationship decisions based on short-term impressions

Believing your own inferences instead of actual experience and knowledge.

And so here is what happens - we see only what we want to see and then are shocked when what we want to see and the reality do not match.

Your Solution: Take your time. One way to take your time is to use "The 4 Seasons Approach" that says you need to know someone through all four seasons (a year) to really know someone and to know if this is really the right person for you. Take your time. Take enough time to get enough "field experience" to see if what you see is really what you are going to get long-term.
