A training crate is an ideal method for improving your dog's behavior, but you have to do the work of setting it up and using it. This is easy to do and can be one of the best things that you invest in, in terms of your dog's care and training. Crates for dogs are designed to provide them with a place to call their own. It's a place where they can feel safe and secure. It is also a place where they can be secluded from the rest of the family. This is ideal for situations in which the dog is behaving poorly. How do you set up all of these things to get the most out of it? The process is pretty simple!

Getting It Together

The first thing that you need to do, of course, is getting a training crate. You can find them easily and they don't have to be overly expensive. The goal is to provide a crate that is big enough for your dog to comfortably lay down and stretch out at his full grown size. You can purchase a dog crate pad for additional comfort as well. The goal is to provide a comfortable yet secluded place for your dog.

Next, to crate train a dog you will have to set up the crate and use it. Keep it in one place in the home and use it all of the time. To crate train a puppy, you will want to establish this method as soon as you can. The earlier in his life the better it will be for him. Puppies learn quickly. Although he may not like being away from you at first, he is sure to grow attached to his crate and consider it his home. To crate train a dog that is older, the same methods apply. You will want to establish a location and place the dog into the crate whenever necessary. Create training older dogs shouldn't be any different, although it may take more getting used to on their part since they have not had this experience before.

Dog's can be crate trained for any reason but should be for these situations:

At night when you go to bed, the dog should be placed in his training crate.

When you are not at home to watch the dog, the dog should be placed in his training crate.

When the dog misbehaves, his training crate works as a tool to help separate him from the rest of the family.

For puppy potty training, crate use should be used when the dog goes potty indoors but also in the morning. Take him out of the training crate first thing in the morning and direct him to his potty location outside. This will help him to realize that is where he should be going potty always.

There will be whining. Crate training is not going to be simple at first as the dog isn't used to it. Yet, soon he will learn that it isn't so bad. In fact, over time, dogs won't give their owners any problems with going to bed at night or going into his crate when he wants to sleep. If you hold out on dealing with the whining for just a few days, he will stop and the situation will improve over time.
