How To Handle Dog Behavior Problems - July 18, 2008 -
Dogs
Dogs have a tremendous capacity for communication and learning which is probably the main reason for the long history of friendship between dogs and man. The obedience trained dog is without a doubt a pleasure to have around, yet owners must understand that good behavior is a learned behavior. They do not figure out basic obedience on their own, they must be trained. They are social animals and without proper dog training, they will behave like animals. Dogs have to be taught what you want or dont want them to do because naturally they are creatures of instinct and for a dog training program to be truly effective it must take full account of this very important characteristic. At the same time dog owners must learn good dog training methods.
Dog Behavior Problems
Wish you knew how to handle dog behavior problems? Dog aggression and behavior problems can be especially exasperating for owners. These may include: lunging at other dogs or passersby, phobias, separation anxiety, destructive chewing, aggression, and excessive barking, to name a few. Once a dog owner learns effective dog behavior training, they'll have the ability to: resolve dog food aggression, how to identify the early signs of aggression, how to stop your dog from acting aggressive towards children and strangers and other dogs. While serious behavior issues such as aggression take longer to address, the goal is to learn how to handle dog behavior problems in as short amount of time as possible.
Behavior
Behavioral problems most often develop due to lack of training. The behavior of dogs is equally dependent upon both the training they receive as puppies, and their genetics. Using force while training is controversial and should not be taken lightly, because even if it ends the behavior, when applied inappropriately with some dogs it may lead to a loss of drive (enthusiasm for the given task), stress, and in extreme cases even aggression. You need to be aware of whether your dog needs behavior modification (where you will have to find out the underlying reason why your dog digs and not just put chicken wire over everything) or obedience training (to understand commands). Another thing, after-the-fact punishment is NOT an effective way to correct undesirable behaviors (such as destructive chewing or house soiling accidents, which occur when the owner is absent or unaware). Learning to use and apply good dog training methods will surely keep you from coming back home to a not so pleasant surprise.
Obedience
The purpose of obedience training is to teach your dog to behave properly with people around him and become a well-mannered companion to you. Obedience training doesn't solve all behavior problems, but it is the foundation for solving just about any problem. Obedience, whether the sport or practical, helps you gain trust in your dog. Obedience training of your dog requires a lot of patience from your side. Good results in obedience training require large doses of consistency, good timing, and patience. If you are considering 'obedience training' for your dog seriously, must follow some techniques like house breaking, coming when called, and walking on a leash without pulling as integral parts of their whole training program. Obedience training should be fun and rewarding for you and your dog.
Dog training is more than just telling your dog to stop doing what he's doing. Good dog training methods builds a bond between you and your pet that's beneficial to the both of you. Dog training is trust, you are teaching him that he can feel safe and know that you will take care of him. Every dogowner should strive to have an obedienced trained dog.
